A little while ago a friend of mine who runs an awesome video production company in norwich asked a little advice on their new website which they had just redesigned and moved from a .com to a .co.uk. He was concerned about their Page Rank being zero.
Here’s my response:
PageRank hasn’t been updated in over a year,
Don’t pull your hair out, go grab a beer.
Google didn’t tell us it put it to bed,
PageRank is dead baby PageRank is dead.
Don’t rely on Google to give you an accurate count of whose linking to you. It never has and never will.
Google is still predominantly a Link Based Algorithm and being so heavily reliant on links it is not in G’s interest to give away so much information. For years now Yahoo Site Explorer has always provided the best view of who links to you.
PageRank? – don’t sweat it – go check WebsiteGrader.com http://websitegrader.com/ your site is looking alright mate.
To help google learn the rest of your internal pages you should reference your sitemap.xml (which you should be getting automatically updated everytime you add new content btw – don’t think you are doing it right now, you are using Sitemap Generator’s manual freebie)
- Get an automatically updated sitemap (so its always fresh)
- Create a robot.txt file
- Reference your sitemap in your robot.txt file
Please experience an awesome weekend of your finest superior Pokemonness.
Cheers,
